Tax Accountant Sole Trader

Tax Accountant for Sole Traders

Your self assessment, handled. properly.

Most sole traders sort their own tax return until the year it goes wrong — a missed allowance, a late filing penalty, or a payment on account they were not expecting. We handle self assessment returns from £150, prepared by a qualified accountant. Fixed fee, no surprises, and we are the best priced online accountants in the UK — show us a lower quote and we will match it.

  • Self assessment filed accurately, on time, every year
  • Every allowance and relief claimed that you are entitled to
  • Your tax bill known well before HMRC sends the reminder
  • Plain-English explanation of what you owe and why

No long-term contract. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean records and nothing owed. Which is, frankly, how it should be.

Sound familiar?

Still guessing what your tax bill will be?

Running your own business leaves very little time for tax admin — and the rules for sole traders are not as straightforward as HMRC’s guidance makes them sound. Allowable expenses, payments on account, Class 4 National Insurance — each one can catch people out. Most sole traders either overpay because they miss reliefs, or underpay and face a bill they were not expecting. Neither is a good position to be in.

  • Unsure which expenses are genuinely allowable against your self-employed income
  • Tax bill arrives as a surprise because no one tracked it through the year
  • Filing the return yourself, hoping it is right, knowing it probably is not optimal

What sorted looks like for sole traders

A qualified accountant handles your return, claims everything you are entitled to, and tells you what you owe before HMRC does. No guesswork, no last-minute panic, no overpaying.

  • Every allowable expense identified and claimed correctly from the start
  • Tax liability calculated and communicated months before the January deadline
  • Return prepared and filed by a qualified accountant, not a DIY estimate
  • Fixed fee of £150 — the best priced self assessment service online, backed by a price match promise

Working with Prad is an absolute lifesaver as someone just starting out in the business world. Being new to everything, it can feel incredibly overwhelming, but Prad makes the whole process straightforward and stress-free. His knowledge of UK accounting and HM Revenue & Customs is second to none, and he always takes the time to explain things clearly rather than leaving me confused.

What you get

Everything included in the £150 fixed fee

One fixed annual fee covers the full self assessment return — preparation, allowances, planning, and submission. No add-ons, no hidden extras.

01

Self Assessment Return Filed Correctly

Your SA100 and SA302 are prepared in full, covering income from employment, self-employment, property, dividends, or any combination. Every applicable allowance and relief is identified and claimed before the return is submitted to HMRC. You know the final figure before it goes in.

Fixed fee — £150
02

Tax Bill Known in Advance

Knowing what you owe before the deadline is considerably more useful than finding out in January. We calculate your liability early, explain payments on account clearly, and flag anything that needs attention while there is still time to act. No last-minute surprises.

03

Plain-English Tax Advice

If something about your tax position needs explaining — why your bill is what it is, how trading income interacts with other income, or whether registering for VAT makes sense — we explain it in plain terms. Not in a footnote, not in jargon. The kind of conversation you would have with a knowledgeable friend.

Why Wings Online Filings

Why sole traders choose us over any other accountant

There is no shortage of accountants willing to file a self assessment return. Here is what makes the difference in practice.

💷

The lowest price online, matched

Self assessment returns start at £150 — a fixed, published fee with nothing added on. Wings Online Filings is the best priced online accountancy practice in the UK, and backs that claim directly: show us a quote from any business with a lower price and we will match it. You will not find a cheaper qualified service.

📋

Numbers explained, not just filed

Filing the return is the minimum. Understanding what drove your tax bill, which expenses you missed, and what to do differently next year is what actually helps. We explain your figures in plain terms after every return — so you leave with more than a receipt number from HMRC.

Qualified accountants, fully regulated

Your return is handled by a qualified accountant, not outsourced or processed by software alone. Wings Online Filings is an Authorised Corporate Service Provider registered with Companies House, AML supervised by HMRC, and holds professional indemnity insurance. Credentials that matter if HMRC ever asks a question.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

Getting your self assessment sorted takes less effort than most people expect. Here is exactly what happens from first contact to filed return.

1

Request a free quote

Fill in the short form on this page or call 020 8089 1876. We will confirm your fixed fee the same day. No obligation, no commitment until you are ready to proceed.

2

Share your income details

We send a simple checklist of what we need — income figures, expense records, any other income sources. Most clients send everything in one email. If your records are in any state of disarray, we will tell you what matters and what does not.

3

We prepare the return

Your SA100 is prepared in full. We check for every allowance and relief you are entitled to, calculate your liability, and explain the figures in plain English before anything is submitted. You approve it — and only then does it go to HMRC.

4

Filed, and no longer your problem

Once submitted, you receive confirmation from HMRC and a clear summary of what you owe and when. Your tax position is documented, your deadline is met, and you go back to running the business. Which is where your attention is better spent.

Questions

What sole traders usually ask us first

Do you handle self assessment returns for sole traders with multiple income sources?+

Yes. Self-employment income is the starting point, but we handle returns that include rental income, dividends, employment income, capital gains, and other sources in the same return. You do not need to separate them out or explain how they interact — that is what the return is for. The fixed £150 fee applies to standard sole trader returns; we will confirm if anything about your situation warrants a different quote.

What does the £150 self assessment fee actually include?+

It includes preparation of your SA100 and SA302, identification and claiming of all applicable allowances and reliefs, calculation of your tax liability, advice on payments on account, and timely submission to HMRC. There are no add-ons for a standard sole trader return. If your situation involves something more complex — overseas income, CGT disposal, or HMRC correspondence — we will tell you before we start, not after.

My records are not in great shape. Can you still help?+

Most clients arrive with records in some state of disarray. We will tell you exactly what we need and in what format — and if catch-up bookkeeping is required before the return can be prepared, we will quote for that separately and clearly. Nothing gets submitted until the numbers are right. The cost of getting things straight is considerably less than the cost of an inaccurate return.

Is there a long-term contract or minimum commitment?+

No contract, no minimum term. Self assessment is a fixed one-off fee paid per return. If you want ongoing bookkeeping or VAT support, those are quoted separately and you can start or stop as your business requires. You are not locked in to anything.

What if I have not filed a self assessment return before or I am behind on previous years?+

We handle first-time registrations and late returns regularly. If you have missed previous years, HMRC penalties accumulate over time — the sooner the returns are filed, the lower the exposure. We can assess how many years are outstanding, prepare the returns in order, and help you understand any penalties already accrued. It is a manageable situation once it is being dealt with.

Can you help me reduce my tax bill, not just file the return?+

There is a meaningful difference between filing accurately and filing optimally. We review your expenses, check whether any allowances have been missed in prior years, and flag tax planning opportunities where they exist — things like pension contributions, the trading allowance, or whether your business structure is still the right one for your income level. The return captures where you are; the conversation around it is where the useful advice lives.
