Still guessing what your tax bill is going to be?
Freelancing means your income varies, your expenses are spread across multiple accounts, and your self assessment sits somewhere between a spreadsheet and a drawer full of receipts. Most freelancers either file late, miss allowances they were entitled to, or pay more tax than necessary because nobody ran the numbers properly. None of these are inevitable.
- Not sure which expenses you can actually claim as a freelancer
- Tax bill arrives as a surprise rather than a figure you planned for
- Self assessment filed at the last minute, or not filed at all
What sorted looks like
Your allowances are identified before the return is filed. Your tax position is visible months in advance, not the week HMRC writes to you. And if the books need catching up, that is handled too.
- Every claimable expense identified and applied to your return
- Tax liability calculated early so you can set money aside properly
- Self assessment filed accurately and on time, every year
- Self assessment from £150 — fixed fee, no surprises on the invoice
What freelancers say after switching to us
From sole traders just starting out to established consultants, freelancers across the UK use Wings Online Filings to keep their tax clean and their admin manageable.
Working with Prad is an absolute lifesaver as someone just starting out in the business world. Being new to everything, it can feel incredibly overwhelming, but Prad makes the whole process straightforward and stress-free. His knowledge of UK accounting and HM Revenue & Customs is second to none, and he always takes the time to explain things clearly rather than leaving me confused. Having someone I can fully trust to handle my filings means I can focus on actually growing my business rather than drowning in paperwork. If you’re a new business owner looking for a reliable, knowledgeable accountant, I couldn’t recommend Prad highly enough!
Prads was very fast and communicative with my personal annual filing.
Everything a freelancer needs, clearly priced
From your annual self assessment to ongoing bookkeeping and VAT, the work is handled by qualified accountants and explained without jargon so you always know where you stand.
Self Assessment Tax Return
Your annual tax return prepared and filed for a fixed fee of £150. Multiple income sources, allowable expenses, and payments on account are all accounted for. You will know your tax bill well before the January deadline, not the day before it.
From £150 — fixed annual feeBookkeeping and VAT Compliance
Monthly bookkeeping keeps your records current and your invoices reconciled — no year-end scramble. If you are VAT-registered or approaching the threshold, VAT returns and Making Tax Digital compliance are handled on a quoted basis. Your threshold is monitored so you will not cross it without knowing.
Quoted on requirementsTax Planning and Advice
There is usually more to claim than most freelancers realise — home office, equipment, professional subscriptions, mileage, and more. A brief review of your situation early in the tax year means allowances are planned for, not discovered after the return is filed. Advice is included as part of the service, not charged separately.

Why freelancers choose us over a local firm
There is no shortage of accountants. The question is whether they already understand how freelance income works, price clearly, and actually reply when you need them.
Fixed fee, published upfront
Self assessment is £150. There is no hourly rate to worry about and no invoice that arrives larger than expected. For bookkeeping and VAT, you receive a quote before any work begins. Wings is the best priced online accountancy practice in the UK — and backs that with a price match promise: show us a lower quote from a comparable firm and we will match it.
No explaining your income structure first
Freelance income is often a mix of project fees, retainer payments, and irregular invoices across multiple clients. We already work with this structure every day and do not need a lengthy briefing before the work begins. You will not be charged extra because your income does not fit a simple PAYE model.
Tax that is visible, not retrospective
Most freelancers find out their tax liability in January. That is a planning problem, not an accounting one. We calculate your position earlier in the year so you can set the right amount aside and avoid a January scramble. Surprises are largely avoidable when the numbers are reviewed in advance.
Up and running in four steps
The process is straightforward. Most freelancers are set up and have their first quote within 24 hours of getting in touch — no paperwork to print, no office visit required.
Get a free quote
Fill in the quote form with a few details about your situation — what you earn, how you trade, and what you need help with. There is no commitment and no pressure. You will receive a clear, fixed quote, usually the same day.
We review your position
Once you are on board, we take a look at your current records — however tidy or otherwise they happen to be. If there is catch-up bookkeeping needed, we will tell you exactly what is involved and what it will cost before we start.
We handle the work
Your self assessment is prepared, your allowances identified, your return filed. If bookkeeping or VAT is in scope, that runs monthly in the background. You do not need to understand the process — just check the occasional message we send when something needs your input.
Know where you stand
Your tax position is clear. Your return is filed. Your records are current. The part of running your business that you least enjoyed is no longer on your plate — which is, frankly, the way it should be.
“Professional, efficient, confidence that everything is taken care of.”
Things freelancers usually ask us first
Do you understand how freelance income works — project fees, retainers, irregular invoices?
Yes. Freelance income rarely arrives on a predictable schedule and often comes from multiple clients, sometimes in different formats — BACS, Stripe, PayPal, or invoiced directly. We are familiar with all of these and do not need you to explain your payment structure before the work begins. We ask a few straightforward questions at the start and take it from there.
What does it actually cost, and what is included?
Self assessment is a fixed fee of £150 per year. That covers preparation of your SA100 and SA302, claiming applicable allowances and reliefs, advice on payments on account, and timely submission to HMRC. If you need bookkeeping or VAT support as well, those are quoted separately based on your volume and requirements. You will know the full cost before any work starts.
My records are a bit of a mess. Can you still help?
Yes, and this is not unusual. Most people who come to us for the first time have records in some state of disarray — a mixture of bank statements, unsorted invoices, and a spreadsheet that stopped being updated in March. We will assess what needs sorting, tell you exactly what catch-up work is involved, and give you a fixed quote for that before we start. You are not penalised for where things are now.
Is there a long-term contract or a minimum term?
No. For one-off filings like self assessment, you pay a fixed fee for the year and that is it — no ongoing commitment. For ongoing services like bookkeeping or VAT, we work on a rolling basis with no minimum term. If you decide it is not working, you leave with clean records and nothing owed.
Do I need to be VAT-registered as a freelancer?
You are required to register for VAT once your taxable turnover exceeds £90,000 in any rolling 12-month period. If you are approaching that threshold, it is worth planning in advance — voluntary registration can sometimes be advantageous depending on your client base. We monitor your position and will flag it before registration becomes an obligation rather than a surprise.
Can you help me reduce my tax bill, not just file the return?
Tax planning is part of what we do, not an optional extra. For freelancers, that typically means reviewing allowable expenses, checking whether your trading structure is the most efficient one, and ensuring payments on account are set correctly so you are not overpaying HMRC throughout the year. We look at this as part of preparing your return, not as a separate engagement.
Less guessing about your tax bill. More focus on your work.
