Financial Controller Services

Financial Controller Services

Senior finance oversight, without the full-time hire. properly handled.

Growing businesses often reach a point where the books are done but the numbers still do not tell them much. A financial controller fills that gap: turning the figures into clear reporting, visible cash flow, and decisions you can actually stand behind. Our qualified accountants deliver this remotely, at a fixed scope and transparent cost.

  • Monthly management accounts prepared and explained in plain terms
  • Cash flow tracked and forecast so surprises are largely avoidable
  • Budgets, KPIs, and variance analysis ready for board or investor meetings
  • A senior finance function without the salary, desk, or recruitment cost

No long-term contract required. If the scope no longer fits after three months, you leave with clean, up-to-date financials and nothing outstanding.

Sound familiar?

Growing fast but still not sure where the money is going?

Bookkeeping tells you what happened. A financial controller tells you what it means and what to do about it. Many businesses reach a stage where the compliance is covered but there is no clear picture of profitability, cash position, or whether the numbers actually support the next decision. That gap is expensive, not because of what it costs but because of what gets missed.

  • Month-end closes with no meaningful report to show for it
  • Cash flow surprises keep appearing because nobody is watching the pipeline closely
  • Investor or board meetings arrive without the financial data to support the conversation

What having a financial controller looks like

Regular, structured financial reporting prepared and explained in plain terms. Cash flow monitored against forecast each month. Numbers that are ready when you need them, not assembled the night before a meeting.

  • Management accounts prepared monthly and delivered with a clear narrative
  • Cash flow forecasted and reviewed regularly so shortfalls are visible in advance
  • Board-ready financial packs prepared ahead of investor or director meetings
  • Fixed scope and transparent cost, with no full-time hire required

What you get

What financial controller support covers

The scope is agreed upfront and reviewed with you regularly. Everything below is delivered remotely, using cloud accounting tools you already use or we set up for you.

01

Management Accounts and Reporting

Monthly or quarterly management accounts prepared from your bookkeeping records, covering P&L, balance sheet, and cash position. Delivered with a plain-English summary so you know what the numbers actually mean, not just what they are.

Monthly or quarterly
02

Cash Flow Forecasting and Budgeting

A rolling cash flow forecast built around your revenue, costs, and payment cycles, reviewed and updated each period. Budgets set at the start of the year give you a benchmark to measure against, so variances are spotted early rather than explained after the fact.

Ongoing monitoring
03

KPI Tracking and Board Reporting

Key metrics agreed with you and tracked each month, presented in a format suitable for directors, investors, or lenders. Whether you need a one-page summary or a full board pack, the reporting is prepared to a standard that holds up to scrutiny.

Why Wings Online Filings

What makes the difference in practice

There are plenty of accountants who will file what you give them. Fewer will tell you what the numbers mean and flag what needs attention before it becomes a problem.

📊

Numbers explained, not just filed

Every set of management accounts comes with a plain-English summary of what the figures show. If margins have moved, cash is tightening, or a cost line looks out of place, you will know about it. The goal is that you leave each reporting period understanding your business better than you did going in.

🔍

Qualified accountants, directly involved

The work is handled by qualified accountants, not passed down a chain. Prads stays directly involved with client accounts, which means consistent output, quicker answers, and no explaining the same thing twice. It also means the person reviewing your numbers understands the context behind them.

☁️

Fully remote, no disruption to your team

Financial controller support delivered entirely online, using Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent, or Sage depending on what your business already runs on. There are no on-site visits to arrange, no software to buy, and no internal resource required to manage the relationship. You share access, we do the rest.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

Most clients are set up and receiving their first management accounts within two to three weeks. The onboarding is handled on our side; you provide access to the records and we take it from there.

1

Tell us about the business

Fill in the quote form or book a call. We ask about your current setup, what reporting you need, and how frequently. There are no long questionnaires; a short conversation is usually enough to scope the right level of support.

2

We agree the scope and price

You receive a clear proposal covering exactly what is included, how often reporting is delivered, and what it costs each month. Nothing is added later without your agreement. If the scope needs adjusting as the business grows, that conversation happens openly.

3

Access shared, setup completed

You give us access to your accounting software and share the records we need. We review the current state of the books, flag anything that needs tidying before we start, and set up the reporting framework. Most of this happens without you needing to do much at all.

4

Clear reporting, every period

Each month or quarter, your management accounts land on time, with a summary of what they show. Cash flow is monitored against the forecast. You go into every director meeting, investor conversation, or planning session knowing where the business actually stands.

Questions

Things people usually ask before getting started

What does a financial controller actually do, compared to a bookkeeper or accountant?+

A bookkeeper records what has happened. An accountant handles compliance and tax. A financial controller sits above both of those: reviewing the numbers, producing management accounts, monitoring cash flow against forecast, and making sure the financial information is in a shape that supports good decisions. For many growing businesses, it is the layer that turns accurate books into useful insight.

How is this priced, and what does the fee include?+

Financial controller support is quoted based on the size and complexity of the business, the frequency of reporting, and the scope of what is needed. There are no standard fixed fees for this service because requirements vary significantly. After an initial conversation, you receive a clear written proposal covering exactly what is included and what it costs each month, with no hidden extras.

My books are behind and not in great shape. Can you still help?+

Yes. We regularly take on clients whose records need tidying before meaningful reporting can begin. We will review the current state of the accounts, quote separately for any catch-up work required, and be honest about what that involves before any work starts. Once the books are current, the ongoing financial controller service runs from a clean baseline.

Is there a long-term contract, or can I stop if it is not working?+

There is no long-term lock-in. The service runs on an agreed monthly basis and either party can end it with reasonable notice. If the scope changes as the business grows or shrinks, we adjust accordingly. You will not be held to a contract that no longer fits what the business needs.

Which accounting software do you work with for financial controller reporting?+

We work with Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent, and Sage. If you are already using one of those, we connect to your existing setup. If you are not yet on a cloud accounting platform, we can recommend the most suitable option based on your business and set it up as part of the onboarding process.

Can a financial controller service help me prepare for fundraising or a bank application?+

Yes. Investors and lenders expect to see structured management accounts, a credible cash flow forecast, and clear KPI tracking. We can produce reporting to the standard required for those conversations and help you understand what the numbers are likely to be scrutinised for. We cannot advise on the commercial terms of investment, but the financial reporting that supports those discussions is well within scope.
