Do I actually need a limited company, or will sole trader status do?
It depends on your income level, your risk appetite, and your plans for the business. A limited company separates your personal and business liabilities and can be more tax-efficient once profits reach a certain level, but it also brings annual filing obligations that sole trader status does not. We go through this with you before recommending either route, so you are not paying to incorporate a company you did not actually need.
What does company formation cost, and what is included?
Company formation is quoted based on your specific requirements. The quote covers everything needed to incorporate, including the filing itself, the advice conversation on structure, and the post-incorporation handover. There is no charge until you have seen and agreed the quote. We do not add unexpected extras once the work is underway.
I have already registered a company but I am not sure it is set up correctly. Can you help?
Yes. This is a fairly common situation. We can review what was filed, identify any issues with the share structure or articles, and advise on the best way to correct them. Some things are straightforward to fix; others require a more considered approach. Either way, we will tell you plainly what the situation is and what your options are.
Do I have to use Wings for ongoing accounting once the company is formed?
No. The formation service stands on its own and there is no obligation to use us for anything further. That said, many clients do stay on for bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, and year-end accounts once they see how the ongoing work fits together. If you want to compare options after formation, you are free to do so.
How long does the registration actually take?
Companies House processes standard incorporations, submitted electronically, typically within 24 hours on a working day. Same-day registration is available for an additional fee if timing is critical. The conversation and preparation on our side usually takes a day or two, depending on how quickly information comes back from you.
What are my tax obligations once the company is registered?
As soon as your company is incorporated, a number of deadlines start. You have three months from the date you begin trading to register for Corporation Tax with HMRC. Your first confirmation statement is due within 14 months of incorporation. Depending on your turnover, VAT registration may also be required. We cover all of this in the post-incorporation handover so you are not finding out about deadlines after they have passed.
