Accountants for Tradesmen

Your accounts and tax sorted, so you can get back on the tools.

Most tradesmen are running tight schedules and do not have time to chase CIS refunds, reconcile invoices, or wonder whether they have crossed the VAT threshold. We handle the bookkeeping, tax returns, and compliance end to end. Qualified accountants, ACSP-registered, with fixed fees and no surprise bills.

  • CIS deductions tracked and reclaimed properly every year
  • Self assessment filed on time, tax bill known well in advance
  • VAT threshold monitored so you are never caught out
  • Bookkeeping kept current, not left to pile up at year end

No long-term contract. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean books and nothing owed.

Sound familiar?

Still doing your own books between jobs?

Most tradesmen we speak to are managing their own invoices, receipts and tax returns on evenings or weekends, often because a previous accountant was not worth what they were charging. CIS, VAT, self assessment and PAYE can overlap in ways that catch people out. The penalties for getting it wrong are avoidable, which is what makes it frustrating when they happen.

  • CIS deductions taken by contractors but never fully reclaimed from HMRC
  • Self assessment filed at the last minute without knowing the final tax bill
  • No clear sense of whether VAT registration is required or imminent

What sorted looks like

Your filings are handled by qualified accountants who work with tradesmen regularly. You send us your invoices and bank statements, we do the rest. The numbers are explained in plain terms so you always know where you stand.

  • CIS deductions tracked monthly, refunds claimed so no money is left behind
  • Tax bill calculated and communicated well before the HMRC deadline
  • VAT threshold monitored throughout the year, with advice before you reach it
  • Fixed fees published upfront, no unexpected invoices at year end

Why Wings Online Filings

What makes working with us different

There are plenty of accountants who will file your return. Fewer will explain your CIS position, flag the VAT threshold before you hit it, and give you a straight answer when you ask what your tax bill is going to be.

🏗️

We know how trades businesses work

CIS deductions, subcontractor payments, materials versus labour splits, tool and vehicle expenses: these are standard for us, not things you need to explain from scratch. We work with sole traders and limited company tradesmen regularly and know what HMRC expects from each structure. You get practical answers, not generic advice.

📋

Fixed fees, no year-end surprises

Self assessment is £150. Company accounts and tax return is £250. Both are one-off annual fees and include preparation, submission, and basic tax planning. Bookkeeping and payroll are quoted upfront based on your volume, so you know what you are paying before we start. Found a like-for-like quote elsewhere? Show us and we will try to match it.

🔒

Qualified, regulated, and properly insured

The firm is run by qualified accountants and is an Authorised Corporate Service Provider registered with Companies House. We are AML-supervised by HMRC and covered by professional indemnity insurance. You are not handing your filings to an unregulated bookkeeper; there is proper accountability behind everything we do.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

Most clients are set up within a week. You do not need to have tidy books or a clear picture of your tax position before reaching out.

1

Request a free quote

Fill in the short form on this page and tell us roughly what you need: self assessment, company accounts, CIS, bookkeeping, or a combination. We will come back to you the same day with a fixed-fee quote or a request for a brief call.

2

We review your situation

We ask for the documents we need: bank statements, invoices, any CIS statements, previous returns if available. If there are gaps or catch-up required, we will tell you what that looks like and what it costs before any work starts.

3

We handle the filings

Your accounts, tax return, VAT, CIS, or payroll are prepared accurately and submitted to HMRC and Companies House. We keep you informed at each step and let you know your tax position before any payment is due.

4

You get on with the job

The compliance side is handled. Deadlines are tracked, submissions are made, and any HMRC correspondence is dealt with. Your books are in good order for next year, and you have a clear picture of what you owe and when. Which is, frankly, the way it should be.

Questions

Answers to what tradesmen usually ask

Do you handle CIS returns and can you reclaim deductions on my behalf?+

Yes. If you work as a subcontractor under the Construction Industry Scheme, your contractor deducts tax from your payments at source. We track those deductions, offset them against your tax liability, and reclaim any overpayment from HMRC through your self assessment return. If you are also a contractor paying subcontractors, we handle the monthly CIS submissions and verification as well.

What does it cost and what is included?+

Self assessment for a sole trader is a fixed £150 one-off annual fee, covering preparation of your SA100, claiming all relevant allowances, CIS offset where applicable, and submission to HMRC. Company accounts and corporation tax return is £250, which includes your P&L, balance sheet, CT600, and submission to both HMRC and Companies House. Bookkeeping, VAT, and payroll are quoted separately based on your transaction volume.

My records are not in great shape. Can you still help?+

Most tradesmen come to us with records that need some work, whether that is a pile of receipts, a spreadsheet that has not been updated in months, or accounts that were partially done by a previous bookkeeper. We will review what you have and tell you what catch-up work is needed and what it costs before we start. It is rarely as complicated as people expect.

Is there a long-term contract or minimum commitment?+

No. There is no lock-in. One-off filings are exactly that, a single fixed fee per filing with no ongoing obligation. If you want us to handle bookkeeping or payroll on a monthly basis, we quote for that separately and you can stop at any point with a month’s notice. If it is not working, you leave with your books in order and nothing outstanding.

Can you help if I am thinking about moving from sole trader to a limited company?+

Yes, it is a question we are asked regularly. The right structure depends on your profit level, how you want to extract income, and your longer-term plans. We can walk through the numbers with you, including the tax position under both structures, so you can make an informed decision. If you decide to incorporate, we handle the company formation and set up the accounting from day one.

How do I know if I am approaching the VAT threshold?+

The current VAT registration threshold is £90,000 in taxable turnover over any rolling 12-month period. If your work is growing and you are not monitoring this, you can cross the threshold without realising, which means you owe VAT on past sales with no ability to reclaim it from customers. We keep an eye on your turnover as part of ongoing bookkeeping and flag the position before it becomes a problem, not after.
