IT Contractor Accountants

IT Contractor Accountants

Your limited company accounts and tax, handled properly.

Most IT contractors run through a limited company and end up managing two separate tax obligations every year: the company accounts and their own self assessment. We handle both, keep you on top of deadlines, and tell you what your tax bill looks like well before it lands. Qualified accountants, ACSP-registered, with clear fixed fees.

  • Company accounts and CT600 filed on time, every year
  • Director self assessment prepared and submitted with no chasing
  • Your corporation tax position known well before the bill arrives
  • VAT returns and confirmation statements handled as part of the picture

No long-term contract. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean, filed records and nothing owed.

Sound familiar?

Two tax deadlines a year is one too many to track alone.

IT contractors running through a limited company face a straightforward but persistent problem: there are more filings than most people expect. Company accounts, a corporation tax return, a personal self assessment, a confirmation statement, and often VAT on top. Each has its own deadline. Miss one and HMRC notices. Most contractors either spend more evenings on it than they should, or leave things until the deadline is uncomfortably close.

  • Corporation tax bill arrives as a surprise because no one kept track during the year
  • Director self assessment left until January, rushed, and filed without checking for reliefs
  • Confirmation statement or VAT deadline missed because it slipped off the radar

What a properly handled engagement looks like

When both the company and personal filings are managed in one place, the picture becomes considerably clearer. Deadlines are tracked, tax is visible well in advance, and you are not starting from scratch each January.

  • Your corporation tax is calculated and planned as the year progresses, not at the end
  • Director self assessment prepared properly, with allowances checked before submission
  • Confirmation statements and VAT returns tracked and filed on schedule without reminders from you
  • Fixed fees for company accounts and self assessment, so cost is known from the start

Why contractors work with us

What makes the difference for a limited company contractor

There are several accountants who will file your accounts. Fewer will keep you informed throughout the year, handle both filings in one engagement, and be straightforward about cost from the start.

🔗

Company and personal tax in one place

For a contractor director, the company accounts and your personal self assessment are two sides of the same picture. We handle both, so salary, dividends, and the corporation tax position are all considered together. You do not end up with two separate accountants producing figures that do not quite align.

📋

Your tax bill visible well in advance

Rather than presenting a tax calculation in the final weeks before a deadline, we keep the corporation tax position current as the year progresses. You know roughly what to expect before the bill arrives, which makes cash management considerably more straightforward.

🔒

Qualified, regulated, and properly covered

Wings Online Filings is an Authorised Corporate Service Provider registered with Companies House, AML-supervised by HMRC, and covered by professional indemnity insurance. Your filings are handled by qualified accountants who are accountable for the work they produce.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

Most contractors are set up within a few days of first contact. The process is online, the paperwork is handled, and there is no need to visit anyone in person.

1

Get a quote

Fill in the short form on this page or call us directly. We will confirm what you need, which fees apply, and what is included before anything is agreed. No obligation at this stage.

2

Share your records

Once you are ready to proceed, you share access to your bookkeeping software or send us what you have. If your records are behind or incomplete, we will let you know what catch-up work is needed and what that costs before we start.

3

We prepare and file

We prepare your company accounts, CT600, and self assessment. You review and approve before anything is submitted. Questions are answered as they come up, not left for a review call once a year.

4

Compliant and clear for the year ahead

Filings submitted, deadlines met, and your tax position understood. You know what the next deadlines are, what to set aside for tax, and who to contact if anything changes during the year. Which is, frankly, the way it should be.

Questions

Things contractors usually ask before getting started

Do you understand how IT contractors operate through a limited company?+

Yes. The combination of a salary from the company, dividend distributions, and a personal self assessment sitting alongside the company’s corporation tax return is familiar territory. We handle the interaction between those figures as a matter of course. You will not need to explain how your payroll and dividend structure works before getting a useful answer.

What does it cost, and what exactly is included?+

Company accounts and corporation tax return: £250 as a fixed one-off annual fee, covering preparation of the profit and loss account, balance sheet, CT600 and computation, HMRC and Companies House submission, and tax planning. Director self assessment: £150 fixed, covering SA100 and SA302 preparation, multiple income sources, allowances and reliefs, and timely filing. Confirmation statement: £70. Bookkeeping, VAT, and payroll are quoted based on your volume and frequency. There are no hidden extras on the fixed-fee services.

My records are behind and I am not sure they are in a usable state. Is that a problem?+

It is not unusual. Many contractors come to us mid-year or after a period of doing things themselves. We will review what you have and confirm what catch-up work is needed before any fees are agreed. Messy records are manageable; the main thing is knowing the scope before starting.

Am I tied in to a long-term contract?+

No. There is no minimum term. Fixed-fee filings are one-off engagements each year. For ongoing services such as bookkeeping or VAT, we work on a monthly arrangement with reasonable notice to end. If you decide to move on, you leave with your records in order and nothing outstanding.

Can you help if I am VAT-registered and need to comply with Making Tax Digital?+

Yes. Many IT contractors are VAT-registered, particularly those billing above the threshold. We handle quarterly VAT returns under Making Tax Digital using compatible software, including Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent, and Sage. If you are approaching the VAT threshold or unsure which scheme applies to your situation, we can advise on that before registration.

Can you advise on how to structure my salary and dividends tax-efficiently?+

Yes. The salary and dividend mix for a contractor director is one of the most practical areas of tax planning available to a limited company. We factor this into the engagement from the start, looking at National Insurance thresholds, the personal allowance, and dividend tax rates to arrive at a structure that is efficient for your circumstances and defensible to HMRC. This is included in the engagement, not charged separately.
