Sound familiar?
Still doing your own tax return at midnight in January?
Taxi and private hire driving involves irregular hours, variable income, and a fair amount of receipts stuffed somewhere you will find later. When Self Assessment comes around, working out what is actually allowable — and what is not — takes longer than it should. HMRC expects accurate figures, and guessing is a costly way to find out the answer.
- No clear record of which vehicle and fuel costs are allowable against tax
- Income from multiple sources — platform payouts, cash fares, tips — not properly reconciled
- Self Assessment left until the last minute with no organised records to work from
What sorted looks like
A qualified accountant who already knows how taxi and private hire income works. Your expenses are claimed correctly, your return is filed well before the deadline, and you know your tax bill in advance rather than when the reminder arrives.
- All allowable vehicle, fuel, insurance and licensing costs claimed correctly
- Income from all platforms and cash fares reconciled into a clean, accurate record
- Self Assessment filed on time — tax bill visible months before the deadline
- Fixed £150 fee for Self Assessment — no surprises on the invoice either
What self-employed clients say about us
Sole traders and self-employed drivers tell us the same thing: the process was clearer than they expected, and the tax bill was less of a shock.
Working with Prad is an absolute lifesaver as someone just starting out in the business world. Being new to everything, it can feel incredibly overwhelming, but Prad makes the whole process straightforward and stress-free. His knowledge of UK accounting and HM Revenue & Customs is second to none, and he always takes the time to explain things clearly rather than leaving me confused.
I own a small passion business and prads has been very helpful in giving accounting advice and helping me to understand business from an accounting perspective. Super attentive, efficient and I will definitely recommend.
Everything your Self Assessment covers
One fixed fee covers the full return — income, expenses, reliefs, and submission to HMRC. Nothing is left for you to figure out separately.
Self Assessment, Done Properly
Your SA100 and SA302 are prepared and submitted to HMRC for a fixed fee of £150. All income sources are included — platform payouts, cash fares, and any other earnings — and every allowable expense is identified and claimed. You know your tax liability and any payment-on-account obligations before HMRC sends its first reminder.
Fixed fee — £150Expenses Claimed, Nothing Missed
Fuel, vehicle running costs, TfL or council licensing fees, insurance, phone use, and protective equipment are all deductible where allowable. The mileage rate versus actual costs question is something we assess for your specific situation rather than applying one answer to everyone. Claiming the right expenses is often where self-employed drivers leave money on the table.
Included in Self AssessmentVAT and Bookkeeping Support
If your annual turnover is approaching the VAT registration threshold, you will want to know before you cross it — not after. We monitor your position and advise if and when registration becomes necessary. Bookkeeping support is available for drivers who want clean, monthly records rather than a year-end scramble, quoted based on transaction volume.
Quoted on your requirementsConsistently good service, consistently honest pricing
Clients range from first-time filers to experienced self-employed operators. The feedback tends to cover the same ground: clear communication, no jargon, and the work done when it was supposed to be done.

Switched Accountants and Have Not Looked Back
“Working with Wings Online Filings Ltd has been an absolute pleasure. They are highly communicative, supportive, and provide a responsive, cost-effective service that perfectly suits my small architecture practice. I switched from another accountant about a year ago and haven’t looked back since.”
Why taxi drivers choose us over a local accountant
Three things that make a practical difference when you are self-employed and busy on the road.
We already know how taxi income works
You will not need to explain the difference between platform-settled income, cash fares, and tips before getting a useful answer. We work with self-employed drivers regularly and understand how HMRC views each income type, which mileage and vehicle expense claims apply, and what the licensing costs are deductible for. That saves time on both sides.
Fixed price, no bill surprises
Self Assessment for a self-employed taxi driver is £150 — one fixed fee, everything included from expense review through to HMRC submission. If you find a lower published price from another regulated accountancy firm, we will match it. Transparency on cost is not a nice-to-have when margins are tight.
Fully online — fits around your shifts
There is no need to take time off to visit an office. Everything is handled remotely: you share your records digitally, we do the work, and we communicate clearly at each stage. Questions are answered the day you ask them, which matters when you are trying to keep the cab on the road rather than chasing a reply.
Up and running in four straightforward steps
Most drivers are sorted within a few days of getting in touch. The process requires very little from you beyond sharing what you already have.
Request a free quote
Fill in the short form and tell us a little about your situation — whether you are a black cab driver, private hire, Uber, or multi-platform. You will get a clear, fixed quote back the same day. No obligation to proceed.
Share your income and records
Send over whatever records you have — platform statements, bank statements, a spreadsheet, or a folder of receipts. If the records are not in great shape, that is fine. Catch-up work is something we handle regularly and we will let you know upfront what is involved.
We prepare your return
Your Self Assessment is prepared in full — income reconciled, expenses reviewed and claimed correctly, tax liability calculated. We will walk you through the figures in plain terms before anything is submitted, so you understand what you owe and why.
Filed, done, move on
Your return is submitted to HMRC, you receive confirmation, and you know exactly what is due and when. Next year, the process is quicker because the groundwork is already in place. Which is, frankly, the way it should be.
“Professional, efficient, confidence that everything is taken care of.”
A few things taxi drivers usually ask
Do you understand how taxi and private hire income is taxed — including platform settlements and cash fares?
Yes. Self-employed taxi drivers are taxed on their total trading income, which covers platform-settled amounts, cash fares, and any tips received. Each needs to be recorded separately and reported correctly on the Self Assessment return. We are familiar with how Uber, Bolt, and other platforms report earnings, and we know which deductions — fuel, mileage, vehicle costs, TfL licensing, insurance — apply and how to calculate them correctly.
What does it cost, and what is included?
Self Assessment for a self-employed taxi driver is a fixed fee of £150. That covers a full review of your income and expenses, preparation of your SA100 and SA302, advice on allowable deductions, and submission to HMRC. If your records need catch-up work before the return can be prepared, we will quote that separately and upfront — no surprises. If you find a lower published fee from another regulated accountancy firm, we will match it.
My records are a mess — receipts in a bag, no spreadsheet. Can you still help?
Most drivers come to us with records in some state of disarray, particularly if it is their first time using an accountant. We can work with bank statements, platform settlement reports, and whatever receipts you have. We will tell you upfront what is needed to complete the return accurately and what, if anything, we need you to locate. The process is straightforward once we know what we are working with.
Is there a long-term contract or minimum commitment?
No long-term contract. Self Assessment is a fixed-fee, one-off service — you pay for the year’s return and that is it. If you want ongoing bookkeeping or VAT support, those are separate arrangements and you can stop at any point. Most clients stay because the service works, not because they are tied in.
Should I claim the HMRC approved mileage rate or my actual vehicle expenses?
It depends on your specific situation — the approved mileage allowance (currently 45p per mile for the first 10,000 miles) is simpler and suits many drivers, but actual costs can produce a larger deduction depending on your vehicle, fuel use, and proportion of business to personal mileage. We assess both calculations for your circumstances and apply whichever is more beneficial. This is one of the more common areas where self-employed drivers either over-claim or under-claim.
Do I need to register for VAT as a taxi driver?
If your annual taxable turnover exceeds the VAT registration threshold (currently £90,000), registration becomes mandatory. Most sole-trader taxi drivers fall below this threshold, but it is worth monitoring — particularly if you work long hours, operate multiple vehicles, or run the business through a limited company. We keep an eye on your position and flag it if registration is approaching, rather than leaving it to you to work out.
