Sound familiar?
Still not sure what your tax bill is going to be?
A lot of Edinburgh business owners are managing their own books, chasing receipts at year-end, and guessing at their tax position until HMRC sends the figure. Scottish income tax adds another layer to self assessment that catches people out. The work gets done eventually, but usually under pressure and never quite on your own terms.
- Self assessment filed late or left to the last possible week
- Scottish income tax bands applied incorrectly or not claimed properly
- No clear picture of what is owed until HMRC confirms it
What on top of it looks like
Your returns are prepared well ahead of the deadline. Your tax position is clear before HMRC gets involved. You know the number, not the estimate.
- Self assessment filed on time, with plenty of notice beforehand
- Scottish rate taxpayer status handled correctly on every return
- Your tax liability confirmed months ahead, not days before it is due
- Fixed one-off fee of £150 for self assessment, £250 for company accounts and tax return

What makes the difference in practice
Plenty of accountants will file your returns. Here is what working with us actually looks like day to day.
Fixed Fees, Known in Advance
Self assessment is £150. Company accounts with corporation tax is £250. Dormant company accounts are £50. You see the price before agreeing to anything, and it does not change once work begins. No hourly rates, no invoice surprises at the end.
Scottish Tax Rates Handled Correctly
Scotland has its own income tax bands and rates, which differ from the rest of the UK. Edinburgh-based taxpayers can end up with incorrectly calculated bills if their accountant is not across this. We apply the correct Scottish rates on every return as standard.
Qualified, Regulated, and Covered
We are qualified accountants and an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) registered with Companies House. We are AML-supervised by HMRC and hold professional indemnity insurance. That is the regulatory baseline you should expect from any accountant you hand your filings to.
Up and running in four straightforward steps
The process is designed to be as light on your time as possible. Most clients are set up and have a clear plan within a week of first contact.

Filed, Confirmed, Done
Once submitted, you receive confirmation and a plain-English summary of your position. Your deadlines are noted, and we will be in touch well ahead of the next one. Less to think about from here.

Things Edinburgh business owners usually ask us
Does being based in Edinburgh affect how my income tax is calculated?
Yes. Scottish residents pay income tax under the Scottish Rate of Income Tax (SRIT), which sets different bands and rates from those applied in the rest of the UK. For the 2024/25 tax year, Scotland has five income tax bands, compared to three in England. We apply the correct Scottish rates on every self assessment return as standard, so you are not over-paying or under-paying because your accountant used the wrong table.
What does it actually cost, and what is included?
Self assessment is a fixed one-off fee of £150 and includes preparation of your SA100 and SA302, income from multiple sources, applicable allowances and reliefs, and timely HMRC submission. Company accounts with corporation tax is £250, covering your P&L, balance sheet, CT600, and filing to both HMRC and Companies House. Dormant company accounts are £50 and a confirmation statement is £70. Bookkeeping, VAT, and payroll are quoted based on your volume and confirmed before any work starts.
My books are in a bit of a state. Does that cause a problem?
Not particularly. Most clients arrive with records that need some work, whether that is a year’s worth of unreconciled transactions, missing receipts, or accounts that were started but not finished. We will let you know what we need, what we can work with as-is, and whether any catch-up work carries an additional cost. There are no surprises once we have had a look.
Is there a contract? What happens if I want to leave?
There is no long-term contract. Fixed-fee services such as self assessment and company accounts are one-off engagements: you pay for the year, the work is done, and you are not locked into anything ongoing. If you use us for ongoing bookkeeping, VAT, or payroll, those are rolling arrangements with reasonable notice to end. If you leave, your records are yours and we will make them available in a format your next accountant can use.
Do you handle Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, and when will it apply to me?
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD IT) is being introduced in phases from April 2026. It will require self-employed individuals and landlords with qualifying income to keep digital records and submit quarterly updates to HMRC instead of a single annual return. We can confirm whether the April 2026 threshold applies to you, help you set up compatible software before the deadline, and handle the quarterly submissions as part of your ongoing service.
Can you help me reduce my tax bill, not just file it?
Yes. Filing the return is the minimum. As part of preparing your self assessment or company accounts, we review the available allowances and reliefs relevant to your situation, including the trading allowance, capital allowances, pension contributions, and payments on account. For company directors, we look at the split between salary and dividends. We explain any recommendations in plain terms so you can make an informed decision rather than just signing off a number we have calculated.
