Sound familiar?

Not sure what your first accounts actually involve?

Most new directors are told to file accounts but not what that means in practice. The deadlines, the forms, and the distinction between what goes to Companies House and what goes to HMRC are rarely explained upfront. Add a corporation tax bill you were not expecting, and year one can feel considerably more complicated than it needs to be.

  • Unsure which deadlines apply to your company’s first accounting period
  • No clear picture of your corporation tax liability before the bill arrives
  • Accounts not in a proper state for statutory submission to Companies House

What a properly handled first year looks like

Your deadlines are identified from the outset, your accounts are prepared accurately, and you know your tax position before anything is due. The filings go in on time and you receive a clear summary of what was submitted and why.

  • Deadlines confirmed for both Companies House and HMRC from day one
  • Corporation tax liability calculated and explained well before the due date
  • Accounts reviewed, prepared, and submitted in the correct format for statutory compliance
  • Fixed, transparent fee so you know the cost before work begins

What new business owners say about us

First-year accounts are where a lot of business owners first work with an accountant. Here is what two of them had to say.

Working with Prad is an absolute lifesaver as someone just starting out in the business world. Being new to everything, it can feel incredibly overwhelming, but Prad makes the whole process straightforward and stress-free. His knowledge of UK accounting and HM Revenue & Customs is second to none, and he always takes the time to explain things clearly rather than leaving me confused.

What you get

Everything covered in your first-year filing

First-year accounts involve more than one form and more than one deadline. Here is what is included when we handle it for you.

01

Statutory Accounts Preparation

We prepare your Profit and Loss account and Balance Sheet in the correct format for your entity type, whether that is a micro-entity, small company, or sole trader. The accounts are reviewed for accuracy before submission to Companies House, so nothing goes on the public record that should not.

Filed with Companies House
02

Corporation Tax Return (CT600)

Your corporation tax computation and CT600 are prepared alongside your accounts, so your tax liability is calculated correctly from the same figures. We identify any allowable deductions and reliefs applicable to your first period, and the return is submitted to HMRC ahead of the nine-month deadline.

Submitted to HMRC
03

Deadline Tracking and Plain-English Summary

Your first accounting period can have unusual deadlines depending on when you incorporated. We work out the correct filing dates for both Companies House and HMRC at the outset, flag them clearly, and provide a summary of what was filed and what was agreed once the work is complete.

No missed deadlines

Why Wings Online Filings

What makes the difference for first-year accounts

First-year accounts are straightforward when you know what is required. Here is why clients choose us for them.

📋

First-year deadlines handled correctly

Your first accounting period does not always run to a standard twelve months, and the filing deadlines for Companies House and HMRC are calculated separately. We confirm the correct dates at the outset rather than working backwards from a reminder. That means no avoidable late-filing penalties in what is already a busy first year.

💬

Numbers explained, not just filed

You will receive a clear summary of your accounts once the work is complete, written in plain terms. If your first-year figures raise questions about your tax position or how to structure things going forward, those are answered directly. You should understand what your accountant has filed on your behalf.

🔒

Qualified accountants, ACSP-registered

Wings Online Filings is an Authorised Corporate Service Provider registered with Companies House and AML-supervised by HMRC. Your accounts are prepared by qualified accountants and submitted through regulated channels. That matters when statutory filings go on the public record.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

Getting your first-year accounts underway takes less effort than most people expect. Here is how it works.

1

Request a Quote

Fill in the short quote form or book a call. Tell us your incorporation date, accounting period end, and a brief description of your trading activity. We will confirm the correct deadlines and a fixed fee before any work begins.

2

Share Your Records

Send us your bank statements, sales records, and any expenses for the period. If your records are incomplete or in some disarray, that is not unusual for a first year and we will let you know what we need to work with what you have.

3

We Prepare and Review

We prepare your statutory accounts and corporation tax return, flag anything that needs your input, and send everything to you for approval before submission. Nothing is filed without your sign-off.

4

Filed and Confirmed

Your accounts go to Companies House and your CT600 goes to HMRC. You receive confirmation of both submissions, a plain-English summary of what was filed, and your tax payment deadline clearly noted. Year one is done properly.

Questions

What people usually ask us first

When does my first-year accounts deadline actually fall?+

For a limited company, your first accounts are due at Companies House within 21 months of your incorporation date. Your corporation tax return is due to HMRC within 12 months of your accounting period end, with the tax itself payable nine months and one day after that period ends. These dates are calculated separately, which catches a lot of first-time directors out. We confirm the correct dates for your company at the start of the engagement.

What does it cost and what is included?+

For a straightforward limited company, our Company Accounts and Tax Return is £250 as a fixed one-off fee. That covers preparation of your Profit and Loss account and Balance Sheet, the CT600 and tax computation, submission to both Companies House and HMRC, and a clear summary of your tax position. If your situation is more complex, for example if you have multiple directors, significant capital expenditure, or incomplete records to work through, we will quote before starting. No hidden additions.

My records from the first year are not in great shape. Is that a problem?+

It is more common than you might think. If your bookkeeping is incomplete or your records are spread across bank statements and receipts, we can work with what you have and let you know if anything is missing. Catch-up work may carry an additional cost depending on the volume involved, and we will tell you what that is before proceeding. The goal is accounts that are accurate, not accounts that are rushed.

Do I have to commit to an ongoing engagement?+

No. We can handle your first-year accounts as a one-off piece of work with no obligation to continue. If you would like ongoing support for bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, or future year-end filings, that is available and we can quote for it separately. There is no pressure either way.

What if my company incorporated part-way through the year and my first period is less than twelve months?+

Short accounting periods are straightforward to handle but do affect the deadlines and, in some cases, the way capital allowances are calculated. We confirm your exact period dates at the start and factor them into the accounts and tax computation. You do not need to understand the mechanics of it before speaking to us.

Can you advise on how to reduce the tax bill for my first year?+

Yes. We review available allowances and reliefs as part of preparing the accounts, including the Annual Investment Allowance for equipment purchases and any expenses that are correctly deductible in your first period. If there are straightforward steps worth taking before the accounting period closes, we will flag them. Tax planning on a more ongoing basis is available separately if that is useful.
