Sound familiar?

CIS admin eating into your working week?

For most construction businesses, CIS sits in an awkward space. You know the returns are due monthly, you know deduction statements need to go out, and you know HMRC will not accept a late filing without penalty. But between running sites, managing labour, and chasing payments, the paperwork keeps slipping. The scheme is not complicated in principle, but getting every step right, every month, takes time that most contractors do not have.

  • Monthly CIS returns filed late because there is no system in place
  • Subcontractors paid at the wrong deduction rate due to missed verification
  • CIS deductions not being reclaimed properly, leaving money sitting with HMRC

What a properly managed CIS looks like

When CIS is handled correctly, it runs in the background without demanding your attention. Returns go in on time, deduction statements go out to subcontractors, and every deduction is tracked so it can be offset or reclaimed at year end. That is what we set up and maintain for you.

  • Returns filed on time every month, with no chasing required on your part
  • Every subcontractor verified before payment, deductions applied at the correct rate
  • CIS deductions tracked and offset against your tax liability at year end
  • Clear, fixed-quote pricing with no unexpected additions mid-year

What you get

What our CIS service covers

We manage the full CIS cycle for contractors and handle the deduction and reclaim process for subcontractors, all delivered remotely across the UK.

01

Monthly CIS Returns

We prepare and file your monthly CIS return with HMRC by the 19th of each month. Every subcontractor payment is recorded, deductions are calculated, and the return is submitted on time. You receive confirmation once it is done.

Included as standard
02

Subcontractor Verification and Deduction Statements

Before you pay a subcontractor for the first time, HMRC requires verification to confirm the correct deduction rate. We carry out those checks and issue monthly deduction statements to your subcontractors so they have everything they need for their own tax returns.

Included as standard
03

CIS Deduction Recovery and Self Assessment

Subcontractors paying tax through CIS often overpay across the year. We track every deduction made against you and ensure the full amount is offset or reclaimed through your Self Assessment or Corporation Tax return. Nothing gets left with HMRC unnecessarily.

Why Wings Online Filings

Why construction businesses choose us for CIS

CIS needs consistent, accurate attention every month. Here is what you get when we handle it.

📋

Returns filed without prompting

The 19th of each month arrives whether or not you remembered. We work to a fixed monthly schedule so your CIS return is prepared and filed on time, every time, without you needing to chase us. Penalties for late CIS returns start at £100 and increase with delay. We remove that exposure.

Correct deduction rates from the start

Paying a subcontractor at the wrong deduction rate creates complications with HMRC and, in some cases, makes you liable for the difference. We verify every new subcontractor before the first payment goes out, so the deduction rate is confirmed and documented before any money moves.

💬

Plain explanations, not just filings

CIS has its own rules around gross payment status, the deemed contractor threshold, and how deductions interact with your end-of-year tax position. We explain what applies to your business in plain terms, so you understand what is happening and why, rather than simply receiving a confirmation email each month.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

Most clients are set up within a few days. Here is what the process looks like from your side.

1

Get a Quote

Fill in the quote form on this page or call us on 020 8089 1876. We will ask a few questions about your business, how many subcontractors you work with, and whether you need contractor or subcontractor support. You will receive a clear, fixed quote with no ambiguity about what is included.

2

Share Your Details

Once you are happy to proceed, we carry out the necessary identity checks and collect your HMRC login details or agent authorisation. If you have prior CIS returns that need reviewing or catching up, we flag that at this stage and confirm any additional cost before starting.

3

We Take It From There

From the first return onwards, we manage the full monthly cycle. Subcontractor verification, return preparation, submission to HMRC, and deduction statements to your subbies. You receive confirmation once each return is filed and a copy of the submission for your records.

4

Your CIS Runs in the Background

Month to month, your CIS obligations are met without demanding your attention. At year end, all deductions are reconciled and fed into your Self Assessment or Corporation Tax return so nothing is overpaid to HMRC. Less to worry about, and a clear record if HMRC ever asks questions.

Questions

Common questions about CIS

Do you handle CIS for both contractors and subcontractors?+

Yes. For contractors, we manage the monthly CIS return, subcontractor verification, and the issue of deduction statements. For subcontractors, we track CIS deductions made against you throughout the year and make sure the full amount is offset or reclaimed through your Self Assessment or Corporation Tax return. The two roles have different obligations under the scheme and we handle both.

How is the CIS service priced?+

CIS is priced on a quote basis because the workload varies depending on the number of subcontractors you pay each month and whether you need contractor, subcontractor, or both types of support. We provide a clear, fixed monthly quote before starting. There are no mid-year additions unless your circumstances change significantly and we agree any adjustment with you first.

We have missed several CIS returns. Can you catch us up?+

Yes. Late or missing CIS returns are a common situation and one we can address. We review what has been filed, identify any gaps, and prepare the outstanding returns for submission. HMRC charges penalties for late CIS returns, and in some cases these can be appealed on reasonable grounds. We will advise you on the position once we have reviewed the history, and confirm any catch-up cost before proceeding.

Is there a minimum contract length?+

No minimum contract and no lock-in. CIS is an ongoing monthly obligation, so most clients stay with us for continuity, but you are not tied in. If you decide to move on, we provide all your submission records and transfer your HMRC agent authorisation back to you promptly.

What is gross payment status and should we apply for it?+

Gross payment status (GPS) allows a subcontractor to be paid in full without any CIS deduction, with the tax settled through Self Assessment instead. HMRC grants it to subcontractors who meet turnover and compliance tests. If your business might qualify, we can review your position and advise whether applying makes sense. GPS can improve cash flow significantly for eligible subcontractors.

How do CIS deductions affect our end-of-year tax bill?+

Every deduction made against you under CIS counts as tax already paid on that income. At year end, those deductions are offset against your Self Assessment or Corporation Tax liability. If the total deductions exceed what you owe, you can reclaim the difference from HMRC. We track every deduction through the year so the final position is accurate and any overpayment is recovered promptly.
