Accountants for Doctors

Accountants for Doctors

Your tax handled properly, so you can focus on patients.

Most doctors we work with have income coming from more than one place: an NHS salary, locum sessions, private fees, or a limited company. Getting it all on one accurate tax return, with the right allowances claimed, takes longer than it should when you are doing it yourself. We handle it for you. Qualified accountants, fixed fees, and a straightforward service.

  • One complete self assessment covering all your income sources
  • Professional expenses and allowances claimed accurately
  • Your tax bill known well ahead of the HMRC deadline
  • Limited company accounts and corporation tax filed on time

No long-term contract. If the service is not right for you after the first year, you leave with clean, filed accounts and nothing owed.

Better Strategic Consultancy

Sound familiar?

Your tax return is more complicated than most people’s.

Doctors rarely have a single, simple income source. NHS salary, locum sessions, private consultation fees, and possibly a limited company all need to be reported correctly, with the right allowances applied. Most accountants who do not work with medical professionals regularly will miss things or ask you to explain how your income works. Your time is better spent elsewhere.

  • NHS salary, locum income, and private fees all arriving separately with no clear picture of what you owe
  • Professional memberships, GMC registration, CPD costs, and clinical equipment going unclaimed
  • A limited company sitting in the background with accounts and corporation tax to file every year

What a properly handled tax position looks like

Your income sources are brought together accurately, your allowable expenses are identified and claimed, and your tax return is filed on time. You know what you owe before HMRC contacts you, and the compliance side of your practice does not sit on your to-do list.

  • One complete self assessment covering NHS, locum, and private income, reconciled and filed correctly
  • Allowances claimed for GMC fees, professional subscriptions, CPD, and eligible equipment
  • Limited company accounts and CT600 prepared and submitted, with tax planning included
  • Fixed, transparent fees so you know the cost before we start

If you run your private practice or locum work through a limited company, your year-end accounts, CT600, and tax computation are prepared and filed with HMRC and Companies House. 03

Tax Planning & Advisory

For doctors with more complex positions, we look at the most tax-efficient way to structure income, including salary and dividend planning for limited company directors, pension contribution considerations, and capital gains on any property or asset disposals. Why Wings Online Filings

What makes the difference for doctors

Three reasons clients in medical practice come to us and stay.

🩺

No explaining how your income works

NHS salary, locum sessions, and private fees are income structures we already understand. You will not spend the first meeting explaining what a locum contract looks like or why your payslip shows multiple employers. That context is built in from the start, which means fewer questions from us and fewer delays for you.

📋

All allowances identified, not just the obvious ones

GMC registration fees, medical defence union subscriptions, BMA membership, CPD courses, clinical equipment, and the cost of maintaining professional indemnity are all potentially allowable expenses. We work through your position methodically rather than filing only what you have already listed. The difference is often meaningful.

🔒

Qualified, regulated, and covered

Wings Online Filings is an Authorised Corporate Service Provider registered with Companies House and is AML-supervised by HMRC. The firm holds professional indemnity insurance and operates under clear data protection registration with the ICO. You are dealing with a properly constituted accountancy practice, not a one-person operation working informally.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

Most clients are set up and have their first return underway within a few days of getting in touch. Here is how it works.

1

Tell Us About Your Position

Request a quote online or book a call. We ask a few straightforward questions about your income sources, whether you operate through a limited company, and what work needs doing. No lengthy intake forms.

2

Receive a Clear, Fixed Quote

We send you a fixed-fee quote based on what you have told us. For the most common work, such as self assessment or company accounts, the price is set from the start with nothing added later.

3

Send Us Your Documents

Once you confirm, we tell you exactly what we need: P60, payslips, bank statements, invoices. Everything is handled securely online. You send the documents; we take it from there.

4

Your Tax Is Sorted

We prepare the return, send it to you to review, and file it once you approve. You know your tax position before the deadline, your allowances have been applied, and there is nothing outstanding. Considerably less to think about.

Questions

Things doctors usually ask us first

I have NHS income, locum fees, and some private work. Can you handle all of that on one return?+

Yes. A self assessment return for a doctor with mixed income is something we deal with regularly. NHS salary from your P60, locum earnings reported under self-employment, and private fees billed through your own practice or a limited company can all be included in a single, accurate return. We reconcile the figures rather than asking you to do it before sending them over.

What does it cost, and what is included in the fee?+

Self assessment is £150 as a fixed one-off annual fee. That covers preparation of your SA100 and SA302, income from multiple sources, applicable allowances and reliefs, payments-on-account advice, and submission to HMRC. If you also have a limited company, year-end accounts and corporation tax are £250 as a separate one-off annual fee, which includes the CT600, tax computation, and filing with both HMRC and Companies House. For ongoing bookkeeping, VAT, or payroll, we quote based on your specific requirements.

My books are a bit behind. Is that a problem?+

Not particularly. Most clients who come to us mid-year or after a period of doing things themselves are carrying some amount of catch-up work. We assess what needs bringing up to date, tell you what that will cost before starting, and work through it methodically. Arriving in good order is not a requirement for getting started.

Is there a contract or minimum term?+

No. For one-off annual work such as self assessment or company accounts, you engage us for that specific filing and there is no ongoing commitment. If you choose to work with us on a continuing basis for bookkeeping or payroll, we agree the scope upfront and you can stop at any point with reasonable notice. There are no penalty clauses or exit fees.

I am thinking of setting up a limited company for my private practice. Is that worth doing?+

It depends on your income level, your drawings, and how you plan to use retained profits. For some doctors, incorporating makes financial sense once private income reaches a certain threshold. For others, the additional compliance cost outweighs the tax saving. We can look at your numbers and give you a straightforward view on whether it is likely to be worthwhile before you make a decision.

Can you help me understand my tax position before the January deadline, not just file the return?+

Yes, and that is generally the more useful approach. Knowing your tax liability in October or November rather than January gives you time to make pension contributions, plan drawings, or set aside reserves rather than finding yourself short. We send you a summary of your position once the return is prepared, so you know the figures before we submit.
