Sound familiar?

Partnership tax is more involved than most people expect.

A general partnership or LLP has its own accounts, its own HMRC return, and its own deadline. On top of that, each partner still needs their own Self Assessment, and the numbers have to tie up between the two. If the profit split is wrong, or the SA800 is late, every partner feels the consequences. It is the kind of compliance that quietly becomes urgent when you leave it too long.

  • Profit and loss accounts not prepared, or prepared inconsistently between partners
  • SA800 partnership tax return outstanding or filed without reviewing the partnership agreement
  • Partners unsure what figures to carry into their own Self Assessment returns

What sorted looks like

We take the whole process off your plate. Partnership accounts prepared, SA800 filed with HMRC, and each partner’s allocation clearly documented so their individual tax return follows cleanly from the same figures.

  • Partnership profit and loss accounts prepared accurately from your records
  • SA800 partnership return reviewed against your partnership agreement and filed on time
  • Each partner receives their allocated figures, ready to feed into their own Self Assessment
  • Clear quote upfront covering the partnership return, with no hidden additions mid-way through

What you get

What partnership accounts work covers

The quote covers everything needed to bring the partnership’s accounts and HMRC return up to date, including the partner allocations that flow into individual tax filings.

01

Partnership Accounts Preparation

We prepare the partnership’s profit and loss account and balance sheet from your records, whether those are on cloud software or in a spreadsheet. The accounts are drawn up in line with accounting standards and provide the financial foundation for the tax return. Partners can see clearly what the business earned and what each person’s share amounts to.

02

SA800 Partnership Tax Return

The SA800 is the partnership’s own HMRC return, separate from each partner’s individual Self Assessment. We prepare and file it with HMRC, allocating income, expenses, and profit correctly between partners in line with the partnership agreement. Filing is done before the deadline so no one picks up an avoidable penalty.

03

Partner Profit Allocations and Tax Support

Once the partnership return is filed, each partner needs the right figures to complete their own Self Assessment. We document each partner’s share clearly and can prepare individual SA100 returns where needed. The numbers reconcile across both filings, which is where errors most commonly arise when the two processes are handled separately.

Why Wings Online Filings

What makes working with us straightforward

Three things that matter most when you hand over compliance to an accountant.

📋

The SA800 Filed Correctly

Partnership returns trip people up because the profit allocation has to match the partnership agreement precisely, and then carry through cleanly to each partner’s Self Assessment. We work through the agreement before preparing the return, not after. Errors at this stage cause knock-on problems in every partner’s personal tax position, so getting it right the first time matters.

💬

Numbers Explained in Plain Terms

You will not receive a set of accounts and a tax return with no explanation. We walk through the key figures with you, including what each partner owes or is owed, and why. Partners often have different levels of financial familiarity, and we adjust the explanation accordingly without making anyone feel out of their depth.

🔒

Regulated and Accountable

Wings Online Filings is an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) registered with Companies House and AML-supervised by HMRC. The firm holds professional indemnity insurance and the work is carried out by qualified accountants. For partnership clients, that means the filings are prepared by someone accountable, not outsourced or automated.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

Most clients are surprised by how little they need to do. We handle the structure; you provide the records.

1

Request a Quote

Fill in the short form or call us on 020 8089 1876. We ask a few questions about the partnership: how many partners, the trading period, and whether records are already on software or still in spreadsheets. That is enough to give you a clear, itemised quote.

2

Send Us Your Records

Once you confirm the quote, we connect to your accounting software or you share the relevant files securely. If the records need tidying up before we can start, we will tell you upfront rather than discover it mid-way through.

3

We Prepare the Accounts and Return

We prepare the partnership accounts, allocate profit between partners in line with the agreement, and file the SA800 with HMRC. You review and approve before anything is submitted. Nothing goes to HMRC without your sign-off.

4

Filed, Confirmed, and Clear

You receive confirmation of the HMRC submission and a clear summary of each partner’s figures. If we are also handling individual Self Assessment returns, those follow directly from the same workings. The compliance is done and the numbers are documented for anyone who needs them.

Questions

A few things partnership clients usually ask

Does the partnership return cover all partners, or does each person need to file separately as well?+

The SA800 is the partnership’s own return and covers the business as a whole, including how profit is allocated between partners. It does not replace each partner’s individual Self Assessment. Every partner still needs to file their own SA100, using their allocated share of the partnership income as reported on the SA800. We can prepare both the partnership return and the individual returns, which keeps the figures consistent and avoids the errors that occur when they are handled by different people.

How is partnership accounts work priced, and what does the quote include?+

Partnership accounts and the SA800 return are priced on a quote basis because the scope varies: the number of partners, the volume of transactions, the state of the records, and whether individual Self Assessment returns are needed all affect the fee. We provide a clear, itemised quote before starting. There are no additional charges added mid-way through unless the scope changes materially and we discuss that with you first.

The partnership records are in some disarray. Is that a problem?+

It is not unusual. We assess the state of the records as part of the initial conversation and factor any catch-up work into the quote. If the books need reconciling before the accounts can be prepared, we will tell you what that involves and what it costs, rather than proceed and charge you more at the end. Coming to us with imperfect records is considerably better than not coming at all.

Is there a long-term contract, or can we use you for one year and review from there?+

There is no long-term contract. Partnership accounts are typically engaged year by year, and many clients do use us on a rolling basis because it is easier than briefing someone new each time. If you want to move on after one filing, you leave with clean accounts and a full record of what was submitted. Nothing is withheld.

What happens if the partnership agreement does not specify a profit split clearly?+

Under UK law, if the partnership agreement does not specify how profit is divided, the default is an equal split between partners. Before we prepare the SA800 we review whatever documentation exists, including any written agreement or informal correspondence, and discuss the intended arrangement with you. Getting this confirmed before filing is important because HMRC can challenge allocations that do not reflect the agreement in practice.

Can we reduce the partnership’s tax bill through planning before the accounts are finalised?+

There are legitimate options worth reviewing before the accounts are completed: the timing of expenses, capital allowances on equipment, and the structuring of profit shares in line with each partner’s personal tax position can all affect the overall tax position. We look at these as part of the accounts process rather than after the fact. Any planning we recommend is straightforward and documented clearly.
